Spring/Summer 2010
Since this was my first year adjusting to being a mommy and teacher, I decided to take a shorter teacher adventure in the spring and opted to spend my summer with my son, Daniel, and my husband, James.
My teacher adventure was in April when I went to the Marine Biological Lab in Woods Hole, MA to learn all about Wolbachia. Wolbachia is a very interesting intracellular parasitic bacterium that can infect arthropods and cause a whole bunch of weird and cool side effects. I won't go into the effects of the bacterium here, but if you're in my biology class this year you will learn all about this topic and you will get to see if our insects in KY containWolbachia (using some pretty high-tech equipment too)!
As for this summer, I basically spent it being a mom and doing fun mom-stuff! Check out the pictures below...

Some fellow teachers analyzing our Wolbachia DNA in the electrophoresis gel and more nice Woods Hole scenery : )
James, Me, and Daniel at the Manatee Book Store in Cincinnati, OH. Daniel eating blueberry pancakes (he learned how to eat big-boy food over the summer!)
Daniel's first swim lesson (he went under water)! He also learned how to drink from a straw this summer.
Exploring at the Cincinnati Children's Museum. Trying out the new denim diapers!
