Unit 9: Ecology
F 3/4/16 Go over speciation/selection practice scenarios
Review ecology vocab/take mini-quiz
Species quadrat sampling and chi-squared activity
HW: Read in your text about what a mesocosm is,
or go see this very old mesocosm!
Then, visit this Winogradsky Column animation to learn what one of these is.
Be sure to click on the virtual activity at the bottom.
Then, BUILD YOUR OWN Winogradsky column using the directions in class.
Bring your column to class on Tuesday : )
Also, be sure to complete the species quadrat sampling homework
T 3/8/16 Go over quadrat chi-squared analysis and Winogradsky columns
Winogradsky column tutorial
Nutrient cycling (water, carbon...diagram, nitrogen)
Energy pyramid activity and drawing
Lab 201: Energy pyramid virtual lab (draw two different pyramids in stepped
form for two different biomes...BE SURE TO DRAW YOUR PYRAMIDS
TO SCALE SO THEY OBEY THE 10% RULE!)
Th 3/10/16 Carbon dioxide and temperature database graphing: Using a time span the last 30 years,
create a double-y-axis* graph using LoggerPro that shows carbon dioxide
levels (choose one month and be consistent) and mean annual temp (metANN)
for one chosen temperature location (carbon dioxide is only one data set).
Choose "connect points" on graph options (double-clicking graph)
*After entering data, double-click graph and select "Right Y-Axis Columns"
and select the y data set not selected on the left.
Carbon dioxide data; Temperature data
Good graphics on climate change
Ocean acidification video
Global warming 101 video
(Classification news!)
